The Hope Center for Student Basic Needs in the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University is a national action research center dedicated to transforming higher education so that all students—especially those from marginalized and low-income backgrounds—can thrive. Hope focuses on issues such as food and housing insecurity, transportation, childcare, and mental health, recognizing that these factors are essential to student success and equity. Through partnerships with colleges, universities, states and community organizations, The Hope Center conducts rigorous studies and collects groundbreaking data through The Hope Center Student Basic Needs Survey, the longest running survey on college student basic needs. Hope develops evidence-based strategies to inform policymakers and higher education leaders to ensure that every student has access to the resources they need to learn, graduate, and build better futures.
